| WHY
LAMBDA CHI? |
|
| Lambda Chi Alpha
offers its members the nearest possible equivalent to home that
can be found at OSU. At Lambda Chi, you'll develop lifelong
friendships, have a voice in the fraternity and engage in responsibilities
in managing and governing chapter affairs. You'll gain self-confidence,
leadership talent, and an atmosphere favorable for academic
achievement. If what we have to say sparks your interest, contact
our recruitment chair, Rob Carroll @ 513-498-8999, or send an
e mail to carroll.309@osu.edu |

Social
Lambda Chi is a social fraternity first and foremost and the
social life that we offer can't be matched by any other fraternity
on campus. The social schedule is packed with activities-
date parties, tailgates and exchanges with sororities, formals,
paintball, broomball, bowling, road trips to our chapters.
Even more rewarding than planned events, however, are the
informal social events that are the essence of our brotherhood--parties,
pick-up football games, late-night conversations and impromptu
trips to wherever. The social growth that Lambda Chi can offer
you is unparalleled anywhere at OSU.
Brotherhood
"A bond that will last a lifetime," cannot even
begin to describe the tie that the brothers of Lambda Chi
share. Through thick and thin, the brothers of Lambda Chi
Alpha have been and will always be there for one another,
whether it be on the sports field, in the classroom, during
the summer, or after graduation. Acting almost as a second
family, the brotherhood that develops over time is one of
respect, love, and dedication. The sense of accomplishment
and pride is everywhere in our house, and shows in our commitment
to the fraternity and to each other.
Academics
Lambda Chi wants men who are good students. We believe academic
success is very important and like most of us it is one of
the reasons that you chose to attend OSU. Our High Sigma (Scholastic
Chairman) is charged with maintaining a program for the scholastic
development and excellence of our members. He will educate
members concerning the availability of some forms of financial
aid and help with job placement or graduate school. At Lambda
Chi we believe your grade point average should increase because
you joined the fraternity, not decrease. In addition, our
International Fraternity's Education Foundation offers dozens
of $2,000 undergraduate scholarships and twenty to thirty
$1,000 to $4,000 graduate scholarships each year. Free money
is always good!
Philanthropy
Lambda Chi Alpha is dedicated to philanthropy and community
service. Since our establishment at OSU 1923, we have quickly
become one of the Greek Community's philanthropic leaders-
this last year, we held a major philanthropic event each quarter.
In the fall, the brothers of Lambda Chi Alpha held our annual
Canned Food Drive, which raised over 1300 lbs for the Food
Bank of Columbus, and it is also the largest national single
philanthropy with 217 Lambda Chi Alpha chapters participating.
Last year Lambda Chi Alpha raised nearly 2 million pounds
of food. Our philanthropic accomplishments are unique- they
enable us to give back to the community, have fun, and grow
closer to our brothers in the process.

The Role of The Fraternity
Here at Lambda Chi we believe your college experience is very
important. In addition, we think their are three vital aspects
which are imperative to acquiring the best college experience.
These three aspects are family, education, and fraternity.
We also believe that they are in order of importance.
Family is the basis of all of our lives and without them we
would be nowhere. While our families are gone we like to think
of Lambda Chi as a family away from home. Good friends who
care about you and will look out for you.
Education is why we are all here in the first place. Here
at OSU we all plan to get a very good education. Lambda Chi
wants to help with that goal with required study tables, scholarship
opportunities, and older friends who can guide you through
courses which they have already encountered.
Fraternity is third of the three important points of college.
We provide friendship, intramurals, philanthropic events,
and somewhere to call home. Worrying is not necessary, but
knowing your child is part of a family while away at school
is what is most important.
Hazing
Hazing, any action taken or situation created intentionally
to produce physical discomfort or mental discomfort by embarrassment,
harassment, or ridicule, has absolutely no place in Lambda
Chi Alpha. Hazing is degrading, dangerous, and contrary to
that for which out Fraternity Stands. It serves no useful
purpose, is criticized by all thoughtful persons, and represents
extremely poor public relations. Instead of pledging, a person
who accepts an invitation to become a member of Lambda Chi
Alpha will become an associate member of Lambda Chi Alpha.
There are no separate meetings for associate members, no tests
or quizzes of associate members, no separate dress codes for
associate members, no separate work responsibilities, no "class
officers," and no other activities that segregate associate
members from the initiated members. Overall, ALL members share
equal rights and responsibilities.
Accounting
We bill once a month in the first five weeks of each quarter.
The bill pays for officer budgets, philanthropy events, insurance,
national and interfraternity council dues, Chapter improvements,
and reserve funds. Right the rent to live in the house is
$325 a month for rent, and about $250 in dues per quarter.
The bill to live out of house is around $350 per quarter.
We do have a payment plan set up for those who need it.
